Heavy Punch Plate
The Heavy Weight of Perforation!
What is Punch Plate?
Heavy punch plate refers to the thickness of the metal and the grade. The perforated metal sheets are made from thicker gauge materials, resulting in increased strength and durability compared to ‘normal perforated metal.’ The thicker metal provides greater resistance to bending, deformation and impact making it suitable for applications that require robustness and structural integrity.
Please Note: Graepels offer expert advice on perforating, the possibilities, issues and limitations and all relating factors to ensure optimal results and the highest quality output for your application.
Applications of Punch Plate?
Punch Plate, or heavy plate is generally used in more industrial applications, such as screening in quarrying and mining industry. Other applications include; Tree gaurds, filtering, screening and for security purposes where where extra strength and thickness are a requirement.

Please Note: Graepels offer expert advice on all considerations listed to ensure optimal results and the highest quality output for your application.
- Metal Types & Grades: There are a range of metal grades for each metal type. Most types of metal grades can be perforated. Some materials may be too ‘soft’ or ‘hard’ it is best to speak to your perforator for confirmation.
- Metal Thickness: Depending on the use of your perforated product different thicknesses of material are recommended.
- Perforation Size, Shape and Type: Graepels have an extensive array of machinery and tooling and thus have the capability to perforate a huge range of hole sizes, shapes, and perforation/pressing types. Please note the minimum hole size is determined by the material thickness, material grade and pitch
- Pattern & Pitch: Heavy punched plates are supplied with 60- and 90-degree pitches depending on the application. Note that the bridge between the holes should be greater than the material’s thickness to make the screen durable. In certain cases, flow is more important than longevity.
- Sheet Size: Graepels perforate sheets in standard sizes. Please see the technical capabilities tab for a list of sizes available.
- Margins (unperforated/blank areas): Margins (unperforated areas) can be left on sheets.
- Finishes: a variety of finishes are available; however, some finishes are dependent on material type and use.
- Fabrication: General fabrication is offered for all our products for customers who do not fabricate themselves, we offer cutting, welding, folding, bending, and notching to list a few, for an extensive list please see the Services section of the Website under Fabrication.
- Perforation Size: 4mm up to 150mm holes sizes minimum hole size is determined by the material thickness, material grade and pitch).
- Metal Types & Grades: Mild Steel, Stainless Steel. Aluminum, CORTEN (weathering steel), Copper and Brass other materials are available on request.
- Sheet Thickness: 4mm – 20mm thick
- Sheet Sizes:
1m x 2m
1.25m x 2m
1.5m x 3m
4m x 2m on Request - % Open Area: All Open Areas are physically possible. Standard tooling tends to be between 20%-60%

Heavy punch plates in the various market sectors are used for applications such as: flooring, drainage, gratings, milling screens and for screening material in the quarrying, mining, and waste management sectors. Heavier perforated metal (punch plate) can also be used in structural or ornamental applications in architecture and design. Or in sectors that require heavy duty metal, in security; cash centers, prisons, ministries of defense, zoos & wildlife parks etc.
