What is Welded Wire Mesh?
Welded wire mesh, also known as welded wire mesh, is a type of prefabricated grid or sheet made by welding together longitudinal and transverse wires at their intersections. This process creates a strong and durable mesh structure with uniform openings, making it suitable for various applications in construction, industrial, agricultural, and residential settings.
Welded mesh is stocked in sheet and coil in mild steel, galvanised and stainless steel. A selection of standard meshes are held Ex Stock. Non-standard are available to order.

Woven wire mesh is available in a variety of materials, configurations, and weave patterns, allowing for versatility in design and application. It can be customized to meet specific requirements for filtration, screening, separation, reinforcement, protection, and more.
- Metal Types & Grades: High Tensile Steel, Stainless Steel, Galvanised Steel, Mild Steel, Corten and other materials by special request
- Wire Diameter: Choose the appropriate wire gauge (thickness) based on the desired strength and durability of the welded mesh. Thicker wires offer greater strength but may increase weight and cost, while thinner wires may be more economical but could sacrifice strength.
- Weld Mesh Aperture: The mesh size should be selected based on the specific application requirements, such as security, ventilation, or filtration.
- Pitch: Pitch includes wire diameter and aperture
- % Open Area: The mesh size of the aperture and the number of openings per linear meter
- Sheet Size: Galvanised mesh is available in rolls. Stainless steel mesh is also available in rolls. Consider handling and weight.
- Finishes: Options include galvanized coating for corrosion resistance, PVC coating for added durability and color options, or powder coating for decorative finishes.

Standard meshes in heavier wire are available in sheets mostly 2500×1250 but other sizes are available on request.

What Is Welded Mesh Used For?
Welded mesh is used for fencing, machine guarding, cages, enclosures, shelving, animal housing and concrete reinforcement. The welded joints hold the grid square under load, which suits panels that need to stay rigid without a heavy frame. At Graepels we supply welded mesh across construction, agriculture, food processing and industrial fit-out projects in a range of apertures and wire diameters.
Can Wire Mesh Be Welded?
Yes. Welded mesh is made by resistance welding the wires at every intersection, which fuses them into a fixed grid. It can also be welded to frames, posts and brackets during fabrication. Woven wire mesh is harder to weld cleanly because the wires cross rather than sit flat, so it is usually clamped into a frame instead.
Can You Cut Welded Mesh?
Welded mesh can be cut with bolt croppers, an angle grinder or a nibbler, but it is better ordered pre-cut. Cutting on site leaves sharp ends where the weld has been removed, breaks any galvanised coating and exposes bare wire to corrosion. We cut panels to your dimensions so they arrive square, deburred and ready to install.
How Long Will Welded Wire Last?
Service life depends on the coating and the environment. Galvanised welded mesh typically lasts 15 to 30 years outdoors, and longer under cover or in dry conditions. PVC-coated mesh adds a further barrier against moisture. Stainless steel lasts longest in coastal, wash-down and food processing settings, where galvanising will eventually break down.
What Size Does Welded Wire Mesh Come In?
Welded wire mesh is supplied in standard sheets, commonly 2400mm by 1200mm, with apertures from around 6mm to 100mm and wire diameters from 1mm to 6mm. Roll formats are also available for fencing runs. At Graepels we cut panels to your exact dimensions rather than leaving you to trim a standard sheet on site.
