Decorative Metal Sheets
Think Perforation – Think Graepels
What are Decorative Metal Sheets?
Decorative metal incorporates the functionality and versatility of perforated metal with added aesthetic appeal. Perforated metal refers to the punching or piercing of a solid flat sheet of metal creating holes in the surface of the material.
These holes are also referred to as ‘Perforations.’ Perforations come in different hole sizes and shapes but are not limited to; round, square, hexagonal etc. The degree of perforation can be configured to form standard rows of holes or configured into decorative patterns, text, and images.
- Standard Perforation: Standard perforation are often just one hole size and shape although this is not always the case, standard perforation primarily focuses on functionality rather than aesthetics and is used in industrial and processing industries but also in Architecture.
- Decorative/ Bespoke Perforation: Unlike standard perforated metal decorative metal offers a high degree of customization. However, Graepels do offer a standard range of patterns. Decorative perforated metal allows architects, designers, and artists to create unique patterns, logos, or motifs that reflect the desired aesthetic theme or brand identity.

Please Note: Graepels offer expert advice on all considerations listed to ensure optimal results and the highest quality output for your application.
- Metal Types & Grades: There are a range of metal grades for each metal type. For example, stainless steel comes in different grades 304 and 316 are commonly perforated at Graepels. We can advise on the best grades to use depending on your application.
- Metal Thickness: Depending on the use of your perforated product, different thicknesses of material are recommended. It is important to pick the right thickness to avoid future issues, to ensure structural integrity and issues when manufacturing or for fabrication work. If material is too thin it can be susceptible to warping or damage. Consulting with our team for more insight.
- Perforation Size, Shape and Type: Graepels have an extensive array of machinery and tooling and thus have the capability to perforate a huge range of hole sizes, shapes, and perforation/pressing types. Please note the minimum hole size is determined by the material thickness, material grade and pitch.
- Pattern & Pitch: Patterns and pitch are determined by the layout of holes and the degree of perforation.
- Sheet Size: Graepels perforate sheets in standard sizes. Please see the technical capabilities tab for a list of sizes available.
- Margins (unperforated/blank areas): Margins (unperforated areas) can be left on sheets.
- Finishes: a variety of finishes are available; however, some finishes are dependent on material type. Some materials can be left unfinished – in their natural state, for example CORTEN (weathering steel).
- Fabrication: General fabrication is offered for all our products for customers who do not fabricate themselves, we offer cutting, welding, folding, bending, and notching to list a few, for an extensive list please see the Services section of the Website under Fabrication.
- Perforation Size: from 0.5mm up to 154mm Perforations
- Metal Types & Grades: most material types and grades can be perforated. We perforated Mild Steel, Pre-Galvanised Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Brass and Coppers. Other Materials are available on request.
- Sheet Thickness: 0.75mm thick up to 12mm thick, 20mm thick material is available on request.
- Sheet Sizes:
1m x 2m
1.25m x 2m
1.5m x 3m
4m x 2m on Request - % Open Area: % open area is a little more complex when it comes to decorative patterns as there may be far more configurations of holes and shapes, we provide the ‘average’ open area.

- Durable, long lasting
- Light (depending on material and thickness this can change) lighter panels and components are easier to work with/handle and reduce transportation fuel and costs.
- In its solid state, Perforated Metal Sheets are smooth with a high strength ratio especially when round holes are used.
- Versatile Product combining functional and aesthetics.
- Flexible for forming into three-dimensional shapes which can increase strength and rigidity.
- Broad range of uses. Perforated Metal is ideal for a vast range of applications in arrange of different industry sectors.
