The Brief
The client designed the panel using our specification: Rd 8 on a 12.7 staggered pitch. The concept was to create a globe with continents formed through perforation.
The globe consisted of 36 individual panels, each uniquely perforated. Together, they were engineered so that, after bending and assembly, they would accurately represent all continents.
The main challenge in this project was achieving precise bending, both along the panel edges and across the panels. This was essential to ensure that, once bolted together, the panels formed a smooth and uniform spherical shape.
The Solution
The main challenge in this project was achieving precise bending, both along the panel edges and across the panels. This was essential to ensure that, once bolted together, the panels formed a smooth and uniform spherical shape.
The panels were laser-cut to achieve the required precision. Along the edges, each panel was bent to a 90-degree angle. In addition, the panels were also bent across their surface on a different radius to form the spherical geometry.
