SPACE (Shared Process and Community Engagement) People’s Park, Portadown.

The Portadown People’s Park were winners of both the “Community Benefit” and the “Regeneration” categories for the RICS 2016 Awards ceremony, held in May 2016.

The 40-acre area was originally donated to the town in the 19th century, to serve as a public park, which became a “no-man’s land” in the 1970’s and was regarded as dangerous by both sides of the community during the troubles.

The SPACE project has regenerated the park through comprehensive public consultation and community engagement. The new People’s Park is an excellent example of top standard urban design and now provides a safe recreational space for all areas of the community.

The park is now state of the art which features themed gardens, a pond area, two bridges, multi-sport pitches, a new amphitheater and a car park that can hold 62 cars.

Graepels manufactured the Picture-Perf panels with the pattern of the “Sam McGredy Rose”, by performing the rose into sheet metal. These perforated sheets were then fabricated into fencing and gates for the park.

The project consisted of approximately 250 metres of perforated fencing and gates. the individual panels were powder coated in RAL Black Satin giving the panels a sleek and elegant finish.

The bridge displays a number of perforated stainless steel panels, placed either side of the railings. The stainless steel panels are polished and rolled to over a 2.2 metre radius and feature a perforated rose and stem pattern, as shown in the photographs.
